Yoyo Maeght
Yoyo Maeght, granddaughter of the famous gallery owner and founder of the Maeght Foundation, Aimé Maeght, grew up in a family dedicated to art, surrounded by the greatest artists of the 20th century, including Joan Miró, Marc Chagall, Alberto Giacometti and many others. Today, Yoyo Maeght is a gallery owner, publisher, curator and author. She is recognized for her work in promoting modern and contemporary art, both in France and internationally. For Asia NOW 2024, Yoyo Maeght presents a solo show by Japanese artist Aki Kuroda, celebrating his 80th birthday.
Aki Kuroda, born in Kyoto in 1944 and living in Paris since the 1970s, is renowned for his exploration of cosmic themes and the place of man in the universe. In works such as Cosmogarden and Ténèbres, he creates worlds where infinity confronts materiality. His large-scale canvases plunge the viewer into labyrinthine worlds of vibrant lines and striking contrasts, evoking both chaos and harmony. One of his major concepts, Sidéral, proposes a dialogue between man and the immensity of space, while his series of sculptures such as Bunny combine humor and gravity, symbolizing lightness in the face of the mysteries of the universe.
Aki Kuroda is an Officier des Arts et Lettres.
