Galerie Strouk is pleased to announce its participation in the ASIA NOW fair, where it will have the pleasure of representing artist Vivi Cho.
Known for her use of oil pastels on an acrylic base, Vivi Cho creates works in which carefully detailed characters stand out against more simplified backgrounds, creating a duality that captures the viewer’s attention. Her characters, such as Byuri, Woojoo, and Sini, are not mere figures; they carry profound meanings and express a wide range of human emotions, forging a connection between art and universal experiences. At the heart of Vivi Cho’s work are symbols that resonate with Eastern philosophies. Her characters, often depicted with large eyes, evoke the idea that our eyes are the windows to our soul. This suggests that we carry stars and dreams within us, encouraging refection on our place in the cosmos. The artist also incorporates elements inspired by Buddhism and Taoism, such as the lotus flower, a symbol of purity and spiritual awakening, representing the idea that even in the difficulties of everyday life, it is possible to rise and achieve greater clarity of consciousness. Vivi Cho’s works also reflect important Confucian concepts, such as trust and righteousness, embodied by her characters. Sini, for example, represents loyalty and integrity — values the artist seeks to highlight in our modern society.
Through her creations, Vivi Cho reminds us of the importance of authentic human relationships and mutual understanding in a world where these virtues are sometimes tested. At Asia NOW, Strouk Gallery invite visitors to explore this symbolic universe, where each piece tells a unique story. By emphasizing human emotions in all their nuances, Vivi Cho connects with the viewer, encouraging refection on their own feelings and childhood memories. The gallery is excited to share Vivi Cho’s work with an international audience, and hope this exhibition will inspire refections on identity, community, and our place in the universe.
