On the occasion of ASIA NOW 2024, Galerie Fabian Lang is delighted to exhibit a dual presentation with new works by Xiao Guo Hui and Chen Wenqing. Xiao Guo Hui has collaborated with his spouse Chen Wenqing since 2010. The artists live and work in Paris, FR.

Xiao Guo Hui draws on an encyclopaedic knowledge of the history of painting to create his own distinctive visual world, blending early Renaissance, Mannerism, and Ukiyo-e painting. Biblical scenes which are countered with modern day practices of altering ones physical appearance meet in Guo Hui’s compound compositions. The artist studies Renaissance techniques, seeking the timeless quality. His dedication to egg tempera brings luminosity and radiance to a reduced colour palette.
Chen Wenqing’s work seeks out the beauty in withering, particularly withering in nature. The artist deconstructs and reimagines fragments of natural elements, such as creatures, plants, animals, sounds and smells. Fleshy and intricate compositions are constructed through these fragments, forming voluminous and complex compositions that comment on the immortality of nature. Wenqing aims to produce harmony within disharmony.
