Backslash Gallery is proud to present a booth project entirely devoted to Mongolian artist Odonchimeg Davaadorj, with whom it has worked for many years now. The walls of the booth feature works in a variety of media. From drawing to painting and ceramics, all the artistic techniques the artist has used since the beginning of her career will be on display, recreating the unique world of her studio.
Born in 1990 in Darkhan, north of Ulan-Bartor, Odonchimeg Davaadorj was exposed to a new Western culture when she left for Europe at the age of 17. Her multiple identity has enabled her to develop an intense body of work in which drawing predominates, but leaves plenty of room for other media such as ceramics, video, fabric and performance. In Mongolia, Davaadorj has built up a rare closeness with nature. She draws inspiration from this to develop works imbued with a certain nostalgia and intense poetic power.
Odonchimeg Davaadorj is a graduate of the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Paris-Cergy. Her work has been shown worldwide, most recently in Italy, India, the Netherlands, Austria, the USA and Hungary. Last year, the Museum Folkwang in Essen devoted a solo exhibition to her. She is currently exhibiting a major retrospective at the Museo Ettore Fico in Turin. Odonchimeg Davaadorj has won several awards, including the ADAGP prize at the Salon de Montrouge. Her work can be found in numerous prestigious public collections.
