পরিচয়/Porichoy (Identity)
Brihatta Art Foundation presents পরিচয়/Porichoy (Identity), an in situ installation and performance by Bishwajit Goswami, exploring the diverse ritual practices between man and land that have helped communities shape their identity over generations in Bangladesh, a country with over 800 rivers.
These objects represent the chaos of the city around the Buriganga River, which is slowly dying from pollution and encroachment. Goswami uses objects found in old Dhaka – cables, rusted iron railings, abandoned saris – to illustrate the surrounding chaos and degradation of this river. These elements become witnesses to a struggle between tradition and modernity, reflecting the challenges faced by riverine communities. By integrating these materials, Goswami evokes the way in which ancestral rituals allow people to preserve their memory and assert their identity over time. Porichoy is an invitation to reflect on our relationship with nature and culture. Through this immersive work, he reminds us of the importance of ritual in the construction of our identity, while highlighting the fragility of our environment.
