Lux Feminae
Lux Feminae presents Surface Tensions (À fleur de peau) for Asia NOW 2026, marking the gallery’s second art fair in Paris following Paris Internationale in 2025. The presentation features works by Shanghai-born painter Katinka Huang and Japanese ceramic artist Kodai Ujiie, tracing a dialogue between painting and ceramics. Surface Tensions considers what emerges when the boundaries of a medium are pushed beyond their familiar limits.
Stitching together autobiographical narratives, Surface Tensions draws a line from Lux Feminae’s inaugural presentation (Lux Feminae, 2022) to its most recent (Tokyo Gendai, 2026). Through their respective practices, Huang and Ujiie gently unsettle the conventions of their mediums, allowing familiar forms to slip beyond their prescribed boundaries.
Lux Feminae (Est. 2022) is a nomadic curatorial collective with roots in New York City founded by Lily Cohen and Olivia Zabludowicz. Translated from Latin as “The Light of Woman,” Lux Feminae was established to create unique and transformative spaces shaped through the lens of the female gaze. While rooted in femininity, Lux Feminae embraces artists of all genders and
backgrounds, with a focus on memory, the body, and distorted realities.
Through exhibitions and presentations across New York, Mexico City, Paris, London, and Japan, Lux Feminae brings together emerging and international artists working across a range of mediums and cultural backgrounds. Following a nomadic model, Lux Feminae works across galleries, residences, private spaces, members’ clubs, and international art fairs, allowing each
presentation to take on a distinct identity, embedded within the curatorial process.

Katinka Huang
Born in Shanghai, China – Lives and works in New York, USA
Katinka paints from memory, myth, and the restlessness of a self that never quite settles. Drawing on a childhood split between China and the UK, she builds an inner cast of characters who are always slightly at odds with each other. Her figures are torn between protagonist and antagonist, caught in an erratic internal dialogue, filtered through absurdity and dissonance until each scene turns charged, theatrical, and mythological.
At the core of her work is an obsessive depiction and reinvention of the self, shaped by an identity dysmorphia born of a multicultural upbringing. Each painting catches a different persona in an uncanny world, where identity and alter ego compete for the same body.
Katinka invites viewers into a space where memory and myth blur. Her approach to storytelling is theatrical and eerie: autobiography becomes performance, and performance becomes myth, echoing throughout her work.
Katinka Huang received her MFA from the School of Visual Arts, New York, in 2023, and her BFA from Paris College of Art in 2020. Recent solo exhibitions include Dreamers vs Swimmers at Galeria Leyendecker, Tenerife (2024), and The Apartment at LatchKey Gallery, New York (2023). She has participated in numerous art fairs, including ARCO Madrid, Untitled Art Fair, Art Jakarta, Volta Basel, and Estampa Madrid.
