Threaded Whole

For the 11th edition of Asia NOW, Lebanese artist Pascal Hachem presents Threaded Whole, a performance that explores the fragility of memory and community through everyday materials.
The installation and performance revolve around the idea of “growing memory”, revisiting the concept of a community in constant expansion. They explore how memory is shaped through different markers: absence, cuts, and everyday objects.
We don’t grow separately from our surroundings.
We are carriers – constantly carrying more and more – and our territory is defined by the objects we encounter and keep with us. Our memory is not just built from thoughts and feelings; it also resides in these objects.
When an object leaves its original context, it carries with it a kind of imaginary feeling that allows us to trace its absence or presence. This inner universe is grounded in tangible elements – dust, smells, shapes, residues, traces, and scratches.
Objects have a soul; they age with time, just like we do.
The West Asia program at Asia NOW is curated by Arnaud Morand.
