Shrine Empire
Shrine Empire presents Sarker Protick, a Bangladeshi artist working in photography, video, and sound. A faculty member at Pathshala South Asian Media Institute, his work explores time, memory, and space through minimal visuals. His long-term projects are rooted in Bangladesh, blurring the line between linear and fluid time.
Sarker Protick was one of the curators of Colomboscope 2024’s “Way of the Forest” with Sheelasha Rajbhandari and Hit Man Gurung, with artistic director, Natasha Ginwala.
Working with Photography, Video and Sound, Protick’s works are built on long-term surveys rooted in Bangladesh. His work has received several recognition and fellowships, including Joop Swart Masterclass, Foam Talent, Light Work Residency, Magnum Foundation Fund, World Press Photo Award etc.
Shrine Empire, founded by Anahita Taneja and Shefali Somani in 2008, promotes South Asian artists focused on process and conceptual media. The gallery fosters a unique identity through curated exhibitions and commissioned projects that connect aesthetics with social and political issues. It collaborates with local and international partners to enhance contemporary art discourse in South Asia through discussions and workshops. In 2017, these efforts were formalized as the Prameya Art Foundation (PRAF).
